Festive Millionaire Celebrity Special Highlights

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? LIVE Celebrity Christmas Special
The show began to the sound of the CK Gospel choir singing Jingle Bells!
Amir Khan stepped into the Millionaire ring with comedian Jason Manford. Amir was hoping to raise money for The Firefighters Charity and Jason for the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust. Amir and Jason played a fantastic game going all the way to £50,000. No longer playing against the clock and facing the £75,000 question they used their Phone-A-Friend, unfortunately Jason’s dad Manny got the answer wrong which meant their game was over but not before taking away a staggering £50,000.
Next up was acting gold, Martin Kemp, joined by X Factor winner Matt Cardle. They played for Encephalitis Society, The Peace Hospice and CLIC Sargent. Martin and Matt had a great game but on the £50,000 question and after using their final lifeline they opted to take the money and walked away with a very substantial £20,000.
Next in the hotseat was Olympic medalist Fatima Whitbread and Russell Watson. They hoped to raise cash for Fatima’s charity, 21st Century Youth and The Prince’s Trust. They reached £75,000 with ease and after taking a look at the £150,000 question they decided to finish their game there. Fatima and Russell walked away with a magnificent grand total of £75,000.
The final team for 2011 was Heston Blumenthal and Kate Garraway. Heston hoped to raise money for The Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation and Kate for Lend With Care. As the last couple in the live show, they only had until the klaxon sounded but still managed to win a fantastic £10,000.
As if all that excitement wasn't enough, one lucky viewer had the chance to win half of all the contestant's winnings. Dot from Tunbridge Wells answered a question correctly live on air. Her prize package included £77,500 and an amazing collection of Christmas gifts!
Who Wants To Be Millionaire? Celebrity New Year Special
We started our 14th year with the same New Year resolution, to give away lots and lots of money! All questions for the show were about events, facts and anniversaries from 2011.
Our first celebrity contestants to take to the hotseat were Jungle Queen Stacey Solomon with comedian Lee Mack, they played against the BIG BAD CLOCK to raise money for Born Too Soon and Alzheimer’s Research UK. They both played a fantastic game and reached £75,000 with their 50:50 lifeline still intact. Facing the £150,000 question it looked like Lee knew the answer but Stacey told Lee not to say it out loud and wait until they used their 50:50. Reassured after using their final lifeline they decided to be brave and play. Unfortunately the answer was incorrect and they dropped back down to £50,000, but that's not a bad days work!
Next up we had TV and radio presenters, Richard Madeley and Sara Cox. Their chosen charities were Centrepoint and The Caron Keating Foundation. Slightly nervous at the start they played a brilliant game without using a lifeline until the £20,000 question. Using Ask The Audience with only 6 seconds left on the clock Richard realised he knew the correct answer but it was too late! On the next question they used their 50:50 allowing them to reach £50,000 and then £75,000! On the £150,000 question they got the answer wrong and dropped back down to £50,000. They still managed to walk away with an amazing amount of money.
The final pair of the night was Dougie Poynter and Tom Fletcher from McFly. They hoped to raise cash for the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) and WWF - World Wildlife Fund. Unfortunately as the last couple of the night they only had a short amount of time in the hotseat before the klaxon sounded but they still managed to McFly away with £2,000!
One lucky viewer also had the chance to win a luxury holiday to the Maldives plus half of the money won on the show! The viewer game ran until 13th January 2012 and our very lucky winner was Louise from Witney, Oxfordshire!
